HappyNotes Creative is for the mind, body and soul.
Here is my story.
Hello, I'm Aimee
Welcome to Happy Notes Creative. A blog for the mind, body and soul. I am here to share with you what I have learned about running an online stationery shop while selling real estate full-time, managing a household and husband, raising 2 furry babies and why my first profession as a cardiac dietitian became so important to our well being.
The beginning...My love for paper began at a very young age. I was always the one stacking and organizing papers, filing, stamping, etc. I would literally play with stacks of paper and magazines for hours. It was so exciting to get a new pack of file folders, stickers, pens, markers, notepads, etc. The office supply store was one of my favorite places to go.
How did HappyNotes get started? I ordered so many pads of personalized paper from Embossed Graphics that I decided to start selling it instead. HappyNotes and more... started in 2006 as a home-based business with Embossed Graphics as my first vendor.
What is behind the name? I chose the name because personalized paper and notes made my desk feel organized and in turn made me “Happy”. It always seems like when you give something personalized it makes people smile, hence HappyNotes and more… was born.
When did you start selling online? I opened the online store in 2008. I am committed to making your shopping experience as easy as possible and as fun as possible.
Why? I believe it is important to have a creative outlet, no matter what you do from 9-5. This has allowed me to have that creative outlet and to learn the ins/outs of how to run an online business. I have learned an enormous amount in the 10+ years of running my business.
What have I learned? When you are a one man show you are responsible for all aspects of the business. In order to make the most economical decisions, you end up doing a lot of the work yourself (in hindsight, this may not always the best idea). I hope to learn not only from the successes but from my mistakes also.
I graduated with a degree in dietetics from Fontbonne University in St. Louis, completed an internship at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and received a masters degree in Health Science from Washington University. I was a registered dietitian specializing in cardiac nutrition and helped spread the word on heart healthy eating for more than 10 years. Although, I no longer practice, I still make a point to keep up with the latest trends. I started selling real estate 20 years ago, as I thought it was a good transition and a way to utilize my best skills - organizing and listening. Although this keeps me busy 7 days a week, I knew I still needed a creative outlet to keep me sane. Happy Notes and more... was born more than 10 years ago. I have learned an enormous amount about setting up and maintaining an online store as well as all the technical aspects including mastering programs like photoshop, illustrator, canva and how to use social media to grow my business(s).
What Now? It is time for me to move on to the next chapter...
I have learned the importance of letting your creative juices flow and there isn’t always a “right” way to do something. I think of this quote from Pablo Picasso “I begin with an idea & then it becomes something else”. I feel like that happens a lot. It is important to keep an open mind and not be afraid to think out of the box. I have decided that there is a lot you can learn from other people, but there is a lot you can learn from yourself. By telling my story, I hope to share my knowledge with others and in turn hope to learn a lot from them too.
